Frequently Asked Questions
What is a salary slip and why is it important? +
A salary slip (payslip) is an official monthly document issued by an employer showing earnings, allowances, and deductions. It is legally required under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936. It serves as proof of income for loan applications, tax filing, visa applications, and employment verification.
How is HRA calculated in India? +
HRA (House Rent Allowance) is 50% of Basic Salary for metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad) and 40% of Basic Salary for non-metro cities. Our tool auto-sets this based on your selected city. You can override it at any time.
What is DA and how is it calculated? +
Dearness Allowance (DA) compensates employees for rising inflation. For private companies, DA is typically 0–40% of Basic Salary, set by the company. For government employees, DA is revised twice yearly by the central government. In 2026, the DA rate for central government employees is approximately 55% of Basic Pay. DA is fully taxable.
How is PF (Provident Fund) deducted? +
Employee PF contribution is 12% of Basic Salary (+ DA if applicable), capped at ₹1,800/month if basic ≤ ₹15,000. The employer also contributes 12% — of which 3.67% goes to EPF and 8.33% goes to EPS (Pension Scheme). Our tool shows both employee deduction and employer contribution separately.
When does ESI apply and what is the rate? +
ESI (Employee State Insurance) applies when gross monthly salary is ₹21,000 or below. Employee contribution is 0.75% of gross salary and employer contribution is 3.25%. Our tool automatically enables/disables ESI based on the gross salary and shows a clear indicator.
What is TDS on salary in 2026? +
From April 2026, TDS on salary is governed by Section 392 of the Income Tax Act, 2025 (replacing old Section 192). The annual TDS certificate is now Form 130 (replacing Form 16). TDS amount depends on the employee's declared investments, tax regime chosen (old vs new), and applicable slabs. Enter the monthly TDS amount manually in our deductions table.
Is the generated salary slip valid for official use? +
Yes. The payslip follows standard Indian salary slip format with all mandatory components. Ensure company details, employee data, and salary figures are accurate. The slip includes company name, employee details, earnings/deductions breakdown, and net pay — all fields required for loans, ITR, and employment verification.
